Listen to your creepy heart!

Last Halloween was certainly a night for the nostalgic in me. The day rose with waves of youthful expectation from the little ones, their stomachs not fully appreciating the treat (and the challenge to their digestive prowess) that they would receive that evening. The preparations for the day kicked into high gear with a maddening trip to whatever candy store we could find after discovering that Trevor (who was in charge of the party supplies ) had a little problem with the candies. His dog ate them. Now his dog (the poor saint) had a problem with the candies as well, and Trevor had to rush to the veterinary to help his greedy friend. Now it was up to Miri (my room-mate) and me to save the day and make sure our Halloween party would be a success.

The first step was to send Miri (we played Rock-Paper-Scissors... she lost) to scour the city for delicious candy to give to meddlesome (not really) boys and girls that come to our door this time of the year. I would be the one in charge to pick our sexy costumes up from the shop and get them ready for tonight. That would be the easiest task except that Hokus-Pokus was on TV and for some reason I'm strangely fascinated by early nineties Halloween movies. Before I knew it I was deep in my couch, singing along the lyrics of Roxette's fabulous "Almost Unreal" single while I watched the then precocious Thora Birch trick or treating and loudly cheered for Winifried the witch (played by Bette Middler) even though I knew that, like always, she would loose in the end. The fun stopped while I was enjoying the funny "I Put a Spell on You" version and noticed the costumes... Dear Lord! I though, The fancy dress shop closes in 30 minutes.

I was definitely not the one laughing in the end as I hit the nitro on my old van and rushed through the streets of San Francisco for that one-last-chance at getting our costumes and, in the process, not being murdered by my room-mate. One parking ticket and 10 minutes of flirting with the lady at the store later, I was coming home with the prized costumes in hand, rocking to the tunes of "Listen to your heart" and singing out loud while I watched the kids coming out of their houses already dressed and ready to eat their hearts out. In the end, it was a killer party and, of course, we ended the evening with a version of "Look Sharp!"
